Payment
Cash
The safest way to pay is cash in person when picking up the product. Never send cash through the post. Please see the section on Meeting in Person.

PayPal
PayPal is the safest way to pay if the product is being shipped to you. PayPal offer 100% protection against unauthorized payments and dispute resolution. Also you don’t have to reveal any of your financial information to the seller.

Credit Card
Assuming the seller accepts credit card payments they are reasonably safe because the issuing bank can investigate fraud and give you protection against unauthorized payments. However, we have all heard the horror stories about credit card details getting into the wrong hands. Also having payments reversed and making fraud claims are very time consuming processes.

Bank Transfer
Bank transfers are usually safe enough, although there have been cases of fraud reported using bank account details. Identity theft is another real concern when giving out bank account details.

Bank or Cashier’s Cheques
It is unwise as a seller to accept these payment methods. It is common that even bank cheques are forged and when you present the cheque to the bank you are held responsible.

Money Orders
Sellers should avoid these types of payments. These can be forged similarly to bank cheques.

Personal Cheques
As a seller never accept personal cheques. The buyer can stop a cheque up to five or seven days after the cheque’s date. Also the cheque could bounce and leave your responsible for the bank charges.

Wire Transfer
Never wire money to anyone you don’t consider family or friend. It is untraceable and easy to scam a naive buyer with this method.

Escrow Service
Do not use an escrow service on the internet. There are many fraudulent escrow service sites. If you are unfamiliar with the term escrow it means that you would make payment to a third party who would hold payment until you receive the product then release the money to the seller.

Recognizing scams
Most scams involve one or more of the following:
  • Inquiry from someone far away, often in another country
  • Money wire,
  • cashier's check,
  • money order,
  • escrow service,
  • or a "guarantee"

Meeting in Person

The overwhelming majority of Axebay members are trustworthy and well-intentioned. Nevertheless, it's very important to take the same precautions online as you would offline.

When meeting someone for the first time, please remember to:
  • Insist on a public meeting place like a café. If you need to try out the product you may be able to meet at a music store.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you're going.
  • Take your mobile phone along if you have one.
  • Consider having a friend accompany you.
  • Never lend your item to the prospective buyer.
  • Trust your instincts.

Taking these simple precautions helps make Axebay safer for everyone.

Other tips
For the seller: always receive the money before shipping the product.
For the buyer: Never give out financial information, including bank account number, credit card number, PayPal details or other sensitive personal information.
